CIVILISED ARE CLOSE BUT WAY TOO FAR

The Canadian Baptist Convention boasted four hundred thousand members during my posting, give or take. All radical Evangelicals teaching their neighbours, coworkers and family about foetus rights, the virtues of institutionalised misogyny and the case for homophobia. Also that God so loved the world, but that “good Christ” bit usually came after the “bad Christ” routine. Most people got turned off by that point. At least in Quebec they did.

Canada’s most secular province: Nirgal and company really did a number on them. While crucifixes over door frames abounded in schools, CHSLDs and hospitals well into the 2000s, the Quiet Revolution had achieved most of its goals by the time my mandate began…
